Vought F4U/FG-1 Corsair

[BACK]

With a design target of the smallest possible airframe built around the largest available engine, Vought achieved a success that led the Navy to quickly order in quantity. The immense engine power necessitated fitting the largest propeller ever fitted to an a/c at that time. This and the need to meet carrier landing stresses dictated the distinctive inverted gull wing design.
